Josh and Nicole have had many adventures over the years. Follow their story below to learn more about who they are, how they got here, and what the future holds.
In 2007, Josh and Nicole met in New Hampshire while hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Josh hiked the entire trail -Georgia to Maine- while, Nicole was out for a five-week trip before preparing to leave the country.
Soon after they met, Nicole moved to Ethiopia where she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer focusing on global health. Josh and Nicole kept in touch through letters, postcards, and a small fortune in calling cards. It was in the winter of 2008 that Josh made his first trip to Ethiopia, and the rest, as they say, was history. Three months later the two were engaged and another three months after that Josh packed up and moved to Ethiopia.
The two spent the next year working on various projects, enjoying the rich cultural history and natural beauty of Ethiopia while dreaming and scheming of their next big adventure.
African Cycling Tour
Following Nicole's Peace Corps service the two flew home, and got married. Three days later, they once again packed up their things and headed back to Ethiopia, this time with two touring bikes. The self-support, trans-African cycling trip started where they called home for so long in Gondar, Ethiopia, and took them through ten countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa), ending in Gordon's Bay, South Africa. The two cycled just over 4,800 miles in seven and a half months, coming back to the US in mid-March of 2010.
Moving to Vermont
After some much needed time with family and friends, Josh and Nicole set out to find a new place to call home. Both drawn to the outdoors, the New England area was a natural fit. They packed up their truck (and Nelson, their dog) for a two-week exploration of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Never really making it past Vermont, they fell in love with the mountains and the people. One apartment ad and a folder of business cards later, Redesign Construction was born. From truly humble beginnings, Redesign was built on what Nicole and Josh came to value so much in their time abroad - strong communities with hard-working and kind-hearted people.
Looking to the Future
After six years in Vermont, Josh and Nicole are very excited to start their most exciting adventure, a baby girl, due the end of September 2016. No doubt some of you will likely meet her on the job site in the years to come.
